Why surveys screen you out—and what to do next

An early survey exit is frustrating, especially after several questions. The next useful step depends on the message you saw: an audience mismatch, a closed quota and a broken page need different responses.

A little clarity goes a long way

Save the outcome message and survey reference. A screen-out does not automatically mean a credit is missing.

An audience mismatch

The researcher may need participants with a different experience, household situation or buying role. That is not a prompt to try again with different answers. Return to the Earn page and look for another eligible activity.

A quota fills while you are participating

A study may stop accepting your audience segment after it has enough responses. A listing can still be visible around the time a quota closes. Do not assume that opening the survey reserved a place.

A quality check or a technical interruption

Inconsistent responses and missed instructions can end a survey. Separately, a blank page, failed redirect or error code may indicate a technical issue. Record what the page actually said; do not describe every early exit as a completed survey.

Avoid refreshing a finished session or reopening it repeatedly. That can make the sequence harder to reconstruct.

A useful next-step checklist

Check whether the activity explicitly offered any screen-out credit. Do not assume one is available. For an apparent error or a completion without the stated credit, collect the details below.

  • Survey or session reference, provider name and date.
  • Approximate start and exit times, including your time zone.
  • The exact outcome or error message.
  • A redacted screenshot that does not expose questionnaire answers or personal details.

Early exit, late exit and completion are different events

Being screened out after two questions and leaving after a longer questionnaire can feel very different. The evidence to preserve is still the actual final message. Time spent is useful context, but by itself it does not establish that the study accepted your response as a payable completion.

If you saw a completion page and were then redirected to an error, record both events in order. If the page instead said you were outside the audience, record that message accurately. That distinction gives Support a much clearer starting point than saying only that the survey disappeared.

A worked example: quota full after several questions

Suppose you answered qualifying questions and then saw “quota full”. Save the reference and return to the list. Treat the outcome as a closed quota unless another message explicitly says your main survey was completed and credited. This example describes how to interpret evidence; it is not a guaranteed provider status sequence.

If you instead saw a completion confirmation followed by “quota full”, explain the conflicting messages in your ticket. Do not crop the screenshot so tightly that the status or reference is lost. A redacted full message is more useful than an isolated reward amount.

When repeated failures deserve a technical check

If unrelated studies all fail at the same redirect, note the browser, device, time and visible error. Check your connection and whether the provider supports that setup. Avoid sharing a full survey URL publicly because it may contain a session identifier.

Do not disable antivirus software, install remote-access tools or change your location to make a study open. If you cannot use the provider’s supported flow comfortably, stop and ask for help or choose another activity.

Common questions

Are screen-outs always paid?

No. Any screen-out credit depends on the specific activity’s terms.

Does a screen-out mean my account is blocked?

Not by itself. Read any account notice separately, and ask Support if access repeatedly fails with an error.

Should I send my survey answers to Support?

Usually the reference, outcome message and timing are the useful details. Avoid sending questionnaire responses or research material that the provider has not permitted you to share.

Can the amount of time I spent prove completion?

It provides context, but does not prove acceptance. Save any completion confirmation and let the provider validate the session.
